Many grassroots sports clubs would love to expand and be more inclusive, but they are often unable to do so due to a lack of funds. To that end, Sport England are providing funding for sports clubs that will allow them to run more activities and / or sessions and provide opportunities.
Getting inactive people active
The ‘small grants’ fund will be providing grants of between £300 and £10,000 to bring your club’s ideas to life. The priority is to fund activities which reach people and families who may not have had the opportunities to be active that others have. This might be for several reasons, including low income or where they live, but also levels of confidence.
These grants should fund activities that are relevant, engaging and help people get regularly active – including those who do very little or no exercise at present.
The core aims of the funding are:
- Getting inactive people to become more active
- Developing lasting sporting habits
- Develop more positive attitudes among young people
Many people and communities a range of barriers to getting active. This funding can support your club to run activities that help overcome these barriers. The funding could be used to:
- New or additional equipment
- Kit for new teams or teams that haven’t had any before
- Fixed term or sessional staff and/or coaching costs
- Training or coach development costs
- Venue hire
- Volunteer costs or expenses
Sport for children aged between 5-13
Sport England are particularly interested in supporting ideas that will involve children aged five to 13. So if you’re looking to set up a new kids’ team, but lack the funds to do so, this could be your chance. They will also prioritise working with people from lower socio-economic groups.
