Around 8 million of us in the UK take part in grassroots sport – and that makes for a lot of coaches. Almost every one of those coaches does it on a voluntary basis, for nothing other than the love of their sport. And so the UK Coaching Awards 2019 gives us a chance to recognise those heroes of grassroots sport – to give them a little something back.

Coaches don’t just coach players and pick teams – they can help to transform lives and make genuine, discernible differences to our communities. It is a labour of love, and for many coaches the role takes up an inordinate amount of their time and mental space, as they plan sessions and lie awake at night thinking about the next game. And it might be a bit of a cliché, but without these heroes most grassroots sport simply would not happen.

This year’s Awards for Coaches are:

  • Children and Young People’s Coach of the Year
  • Community Coach of the Year
  • Changing Lives Award
  • Talent Development Coach of the Year
  • High Performance Coach of the Year
  • Young Coach of the Year
  • Lifetime Achievement Award
  • The Coaching Chain

So now is your chance to nominate the coach that has helped you, or your child, and to help make them feel a bit special for once. The deadline for nominations is noon on Wednesday 18th September, and you can submit your nominations here. Go!
