Embedding sport into education is a great way of enhancing learning alongside cultivating interest in sports. National Cricket Week 2018, taking place in June, does exactly that – and sign ups for cricket clubs and schools are now open.

Over the last five years, a host of star cricketers past and present have supported the event, including Jimmy Anderson, Alastair Cook, Kevin Pietersen, Ravi Bopara, Katherine Brunt, Stuart Broad, Jos Buttler, Lydia Greenway, Jenny Gunn, Devon Malcolm, Eoin Morgan, Matt Prior, Graeme Swann, Chris Tremlett, Michael Vaughan and many more.

Cricket themed classes

Over 1,500 schools take part in the event every year, turning their timetables into a week of cricket-themed activity, keeping cricket alive at junior level through cricket-themed lessons and activity in the classroom, alongside cricket coaching in the playground and competitions and cricket festivals at local clubs. Schools are provided with cross-curricular cricket lesson plans, from teaching coordinates of a cricket field in Maths to pinpointing cricket playing countries in Geography. It’s a great way to engage kids and develop an interest in cricket.

This year, every school that signs up will receive a pack of digital resources to coach cricket on the playground, to use cricket in curriculum lessons and a specially designed party pack to hold a proper celebration of the sport.

You will also receive an exclusive discount code, giving 20% off the Gray-Nicolls online shop, so you can get all the cricket equipment you need for the week, while all schools who sign up before 1 June will also receive a physical copy of Chance to Shine’s brilliant coaching cards which include different games and drills to improve children’s cricketing skills.

National Cricket Week takes place between 18th and 22nd June, and you can sign up for the event here!
