This summer, London hosts the Vitality Hockey Women’s World Cup. One of the most vital aspects of hosting a major sporting event is its legacy – and for more or less every tournament hosted on these shores we tend to see a surge in interest. Hockey saw a huge surge in interest after the success of GB’s women’s team in Rio in 2016, and another spike in interest is expected this summer.

Your World Cup

England Hockey are determined that your hockey club will be a part of this year’s World Cup, and as such have set up Your World Cup – a drive to support hockey clubs in their development and growth off the back of the inevitable surge in interest, helping and advising your club in how best to capitalise and to maximise your club’s potential.

16 of the best nations in the world will arrive in London to compete in the Vitality Hockey Women’s World Cup, inevitably increasing the sport’s visibility at both national and local level. By working with Your World Cup, you’ll be able to provide opportunities for more people than ever before to enjoy the great game of hockey, attracting people to your club and, crucially, retaining them.

Every club is different and will look to develop in different ways, so England Hockey have developed a range of tools to help you. They are now sharing tools like case studies from other clubs, fun training session ideas, promotional materials and exclusive competitions to those clubs that have signed up.

Sally Munday, CEO, England Hockey said:

England Hockey’s ambition is to create a ‘Nation Where Hockey Matters”, hosting a home World Cup presents us with another golden opportunity to grow our game. Thanks to our amazing hockey clubs and volunteers hockey has seen a 40% growth in people playing hockey in clubs since Team GB women won bronze at London 2012 and we even moved the 10 o’clock news for the Rio gold medal final in 2016!

To celebrate the Vitality Hockey Women’s World Cup we are launching our largest participation campaign to date and we want you to get involved because this is YOUR WORLD CUP too! Sally Munday, England Hockey CEO

Up and down the country Your World Cup will be hosting local club forums, enabling your club to share ideas, ask questions and begin to plan Your World Cup activities. They have appointed Relationship Managers to deal one to one with clubs in their area, giving you more information on how to get involved in your local forum, to plan and to capitalise.
