2017 has been a superb year for women’s sport in Britain – elevating itself to unprecedented levels of exposure and success. But it cannot rest on its laurels – and the Team Up Rewards Scheme is the latest move to keep driving women and girls’ sport forward.

The Team Up Initiative was launched in 2016 with the aim of supporting and encouraging schools to deliver hockey, women’s cricket and netball – giving as many as girls as possible the opportunity to take part in a team sport.

Rewarding participation and engagement

The Rewards Scheme is an extension of that initiative. Based on feedback from schools Team Up have identified a number of activities for which schools can earn TeamUp points. The aim is to try and get your points total as high as possible. The higher your points, the greater your chance of receiving one of the top prizes.

There are various ways in which your school can earn TeamUp points – forging links with clubs, taking school trips to watch elite women’s sport, and playing more matches. Your school can earn rewards such as lesson resources, videos, downloadable posters and images, tickets to  KIA Super League and Vitality Netball Superleague games, have an international player visit your school, receiving signed merchandise and even having elite coaches delivering training sessions for pupils.

This sort of engagement and reward can only incentivise schools and girls alike. This year’s Women’s Cricket World Cup was an amazing success, not least because England won it. The next Hockey World Cup takes place next year, while Liverpool will host the Netball World Cup in 2019. Women’s sport has never had it so good in this country – but there is still so much more to be done.

You can sign up your school here. Women’s sport is in the midst of its most important and vibrant time, giving us a great chance to capitalise on the rise in interest and exposure – and bring sport to a new generation of girls.
