Open days are a proven winner for sports clubs of any kind, helping to raise a club’s profile as well as attracting new members – and having a whole lot of fun in doing so. Last year, cricket clubs up and down the UK helped make the ECB’s Open Days event a roaring success and this year Cricketfest 2017 is asking cricket clubs to get involved again, to come together and reach out to help promote your club and the game of cricket even further.

Cricketfest 2017 needs your help

Clubs involved last year reported a significant surge in community involvement, eliciting a hugely positive vibe around both the club and the area. Local residents, families and kids came along to play, with a number of new members and volunteers retained after the event. This year, Cricketfest 2017 needs your experience and your contacts to make this year’s renewal even bigger and better than ever.

A campaign will run across four weekends in June and July, and the ECB will provide all the resources and promotional materials you will need. You and your club are invited to get everyone – young, old, experienced, total novices, friends and family – to come together in playing, scoring, slogging, catching, barbecuing, cheering, drinking and partying, laughing at your mate getting bowled first ball and just celebrating everything that’s so great about the game.

Lots of free stuff from the ECB to help with your event!

Events will be held on the weekends of 24th/25th June, 1st/2nd July, 8th/9th July and 15th/16th July. You can register here, after which the ECB will send you a hamper full of resources and support materials – everything you’ll need both before and during the event, including balloons, bunting, picnic blankets, parasols, windbreakers and even temporary tattoos.

Your next step will be to inform the ECB about your event – when, where etc – and then it’s all about prep for the big day followed by the day itself.

It’s up to you as a club to decide how your event goes – you could host a series of matches while guests relax with a drink in the clubhouse, have a go in the nets, enjoy a drink in the bar, meet new people and – naturally – get stuck into the barbecue.

So sign up now, open your doors and make the success of Crickefest 2017 a boon for your club too.
