Sport-mad kids represent our future, and it is vital they are kept engaged and enthused. This year’s National School Sports Week will do that via a celebration of everything that is great about school level sport and physical education.

Bringing sport to even younger kids

Last year’s event was embraced by over 5000 schools and just under 2 million pupils. This year, a partnership between Entertainment One and TV superheroes PJ Masks will bring a new and special early years aspect to NSSW. Entitled ‘Power of 3’ – to reflect the trio of PJ Masks heroes – the initiative aims to encourage younger children to be more active and take part in regular physical activity and school sport.

Every primary school or nursery that registers will receive free access to the PJ Masks Power of 3 activity pack – full of branded activities inspired by the strengths of the three main characters: Catboy, Owlette and Gekko, a trio of superhero chums who embark on a series of action-packed adventures using their superpowers of agility, strength and flight.

It will appeal above and beyond traditional sports such as hockey, netball or football, with activities like dance, treasure hunts and other less conventional pursuits included alongside those popular sports.

Sign up for free goodies and resources

The first 500 early years education providers to register for the early years day part of National School Sport Week will receive a hard copy activation pack – including a wall chart, activity sheets, and stickers.

All school and early year providers will receive the following:

  • Full access to the website to download resources, including a guide to planning your activities, full of ideas and examples
  • Downloadable certificates and pledges for your young people
  • Opportunity to win a school visit from a star athlete by tweeting or instagraming your best NSSW themed photos

National School Sports Week takes place between 26-30 June, and schools, parents and pupils are encouraged to share their experiences and stories with others by following @YouthSportTrust on Twitter and using the #NSSW and #celebratePE hashtags.
