With the clocks now sprung forward and the sun beginning to shine at long last, we can turn our attention to another summer of outdoor archery and related events. Now into its sixth year, the Archery Big Weekend returns in June – and now might be the time to save the date, register and start planning your event.
Last year was the biggest yet, with over 90 clubs nationwide signing up to take part and host their own open day. The Big Weekend is a great way for archery clubs across the country to not only give local people an opportunity to give archery a try but to give a little something back to the community by hosting a free event – that will in turn help raise the profile of your club locally.
A chance to showcase archery
Over the last five years, thousands of people have been introduced to archery courtesy of the Big Weekend and many clubs reported lots of open day participants returning to the club to sign up for beginners courses. Sceptics are often surprised by how much they enjoy archery and this is a fun and friendly environment in which to showcase our great sport.
We had about 25 parents and young people turning up on the day and 8 of them returned on Monday to start a beginners course. As a new club this was a great response Irvine Toxopholites, Ayrshire
Last year every club that submitted post Big Weekend feedback was entered into a prize draw, with the winners awarded £75 worth of Clickers Archery store vouchers to spend on equipment for their clubs – while an online kitbag of resources will be provided to help you run your event.
The registration process for clubs and organisations is now open, so save the date – 16-18 June – in your club diaries and you can begin planning your big day. Keep your eye on our blog, Facebook or Twitter for any further news.
