2017 is another big year in the British sporting calendar and in the summer the country’s largest multi-sports event for athletes with learning disabilities comes to Sheffield. The Special Olympics National Summer Games is held every 4 years and gives children and adults with intellectual disabilities a proper opportunity to compete on a national stage and showcase their talents.
Making a real difference to the lives of many
The Special Olympics National Summer Games can make a huge difference to the lives of many inspiring athletes with learning disabilities and their families – who will remember the experience forever. The Games empower the athletes, enabling them to socialise, travel, make friends and experience the camaraderie and buzz of taking part in a multi-sports event.
The 10th National Summer Games take place in a range of venues across Sheffield, including Ponds Forge, the English Institute of Sport and Sheffield Hallam Football Centre, between 7th-12th August.
Around 2600 athletes of all ages will compete across 19 sports over the 4 days of competition, which will kick off with a spectacular opening ceremony at Bramall Lane, the home of Sheffield United Football Club.
While many are already involved, businesses are being urged to help make the Games a success, with thousands still to raise to make the £300,000 target. Sponsors and partners can benefit from a range of unique marketing and corporate social responsibility benefits, including:
- Branding at Games sports venues and throughout the City
- National & regional marketing and PR campaigns in the 18 months run up and during the event client
- Hospitality and opportunity to attend the opening ceremony, sports competitions and present medals
- Employee volunteering and opportunities to meet our athletes and ambassadors
Volunteers can make a real difference, both in helping to deliver a successful Games that leave a lasting legacy and, crucially, to the lives of the competitors. If you want to help make that difference email Gearoid Mitchell to find out how you can get involved.
