Last year a record 336 hockey clubs nationwide took part in the biggest national campaign of its kind, and with clubs in Wales and Scotland now eligible the 2016 renewal of Hockeyfest is set to be the biggest and best yet.

Hockeyfest 2016 – something for everyone

Hockeyfest 2016 will run between 20th August and 11th September. It centres on the social side of hockey – allowing clubs to open its doors to all-comers for a day of hockey-related fun and frolics for all the family. Taking place at clubs around the country will be variety of events, such as taster sessions and small-sided games, plus BBQs, bake-off events, quizzes and bingo and much more.

Last year 75% of clubs reported a positive impact, with over 1000 new players taking part in 2015. It is too late for clubs to register for this year’s Hockeyfest but it’s not too late to alert your friends and family and bring them along to showcase everything hockey and being a member of your local club has to offer.

Hockeyfest on tour

Hockeyfest is also on tour, and it’s not too late to catch one of the events. England Hockey’s weekend festivals include games for all ages and abilities, under the guidance of England Hockey coaches, as well as non-hockey related fun including karaoke, face-painting, BBQs and loads of other stuff to keep you entertained for when you are not on the pitch. All coaches present are fully qualified and CRB checked. The tour has been going on all summer but there are two major events still to come, in London on 30th and 31st July, and Manchester on the 20th and 21st of August.

With hockey set to play a starring role at the forthcoming Rio Olympics, Hockeyfest represents a great opportunity to get as many of your friends and family interested in hockey and potentially join the hockey family permanently. It is a chance to show people close to you just how welcoming and sociable your hockey club is. Get involved!
