Great Britain have enjoyed a superb Hyundai Archery World Cup in Shanghai, where they stormed through to the semi-finals.

The team here at KUDOS are passionate and avid sports fans, and we’ve been following Great Britain’s progress in Shanghai with pride. We are proud to be official kit suppliers for Archery GB and we have been prouder still to witness the team’s remarkable efforts at the World Cup. In 2016 all roads lead to Rio, and GB’s performance in China will stand them in good stead for the rest of the campaign.

GB exceed all expectations to storm through to the semis

The ninth seeded GB men’s recurve team surpassed all expectations by knocking out both Australia and top seeds USA en route to the semi-finals, where they slipped to a narrow 5-3 defeat to South Korea.

The team – Patrick Huston, Larry Godfrey and Kieran Slater – had been booked to travel home with the rest of the GB squad the previous night, underlining the scale of the achievement in reaching the bronze medal match. After hastily rearranging flights, and with only coach Richard Priestman remaining, the boys – looking great in their KUDOS kit – finally faced fourth seeds India in the showdown for bronze.

Archery GB World Cup bronze denied

The Indians flew out of the blocks, dropping just two points in the first set. After opening with 9-8-9, Britain hit their stride and finished 10-10-7 to finish on 54.

The second set was much closer, with Larry, Kieran and Patrick in fine form with 55, but there was no let up from India as they took the set by two points.

GB led 28-26 at the halfway mark in the third, but India powered home to take the set by a single point and win bronze.

A fine start to another big year in archery

In what is another massive year in archery, with the European Championships and Rio 2016 still to come, fourth place was a great result for GB and will give the team confidence for the rest of the season.

Earlier in the tournament, the likes of recurver Bryony Pitman and compound archer Lucy O’Sullivan had shot well only to slip to defeats to the ninth and sixth seeds respectively.

Well done to everyone who took part and we look forward to the rest of the campaign. Archery GB’s boys and girls will certainly be dressed for success in their KUDOS kit!

KUDOS passionately supports and encourages people from all walks of life and backgrounds to get into archery at any level.
