Great Britain have enjoyed a superb first few days at the European Archery Championships in Nottingham, with our men’s recurve archers guaranteeing at least a silver medal in the team event.

GB boys going for gold

The trio – Patrick Huston, Larry Godfrey and Kieran Slater – will go for gold on Sunday after a superb run to the final. The 13th seeds, who recently enjoyed a great run at the World Cup, shocked France in the first round, taking a close match by virtue of a tie-breaker. The team has not looked back since, sluicing their way to the gold medal match without dropping a set in comprehensive wins over Turkey and Belgium.

The boys will receive great support from a partisan crowd in Old Market Square on Sunday and KUDOS will be there to cheer them on.

Bronze medal matches for GB’s women

GB’s women are doing us equally proud, and both the compound and recurve teams will feature in finals matches this weekend. The 10th seeded compound team – comprising Naomi Jones, Andrea Gales and Daisy Clark – stunned World Champions Ukraine in the first round, and they backed that up by beating 2nd seeds Germany in the quarter finals. Russia proved just too good in the semis, meaning GB face the Netherlands in Saturday’s bronze medal match.

The following day will see our recurve archers taking on 2nd seeds Germany for a bronze medal. Naomi Folkard, Bryony Pitman and Amy Oliver enjoyed a great run, knocking out World Champs and top seeds Russia in the quarter finals, before slipping to a 5-3 loss at the hands of Georgia.

More joy for Huston in the individual event

In the individual men’s recurve, Patrick Huston defied his 37th seeding by storming into the semi-finals where he faced top seed and poster boy Jean-Charles Valladont of France. In a thrilling encounter, Valladont just got the better of Patrick and ran out a 7-3 winner. Patrick faces Frenchman Lucas Daniel in the bronze medal match on Sunday.

We’ve been following the archery via a live stream here and the stream will be up and running over the weekend. We’ll be there this weekend but if you can’t make it, tune in to see GB’s boys and girls – looking great in their Kudos kit – shooting for medals on Saturday and Sunday.

Whatever happens over the weekend it has been another fantastic week for GB archers. The very best of luck to all of our archers for finals weekend.
