Sport, particularly at grassroots level, is teeming with unsung heroes. Amateur sports clubs and competition cannot function without people – unpaid volunteers – working together; coaches, officials, players, and also those behind the scenes who too often go unrecognised. In September England Netball will host The Goalden Globe Awards, an annual celebration of all those who make such an outstanding contribution to the sport all year round.

The Goalden Globes – see what they’ve done there? – begins recognising volunteers at a regional level, before culminating in September’s national awards ceremony. There are eleven categories in which to nominate your picks, and the deadline for regional nominations is 1st May 2016. Regional winners will then be put forward for the national award.

By making a Goalden Globe nomination you could be making somebody very happy

At last year’s ceremony, Jean Leigh of Trafford Juniors Netball Club scooped the Grassroots Coach of the Year award and Jean later spoke to KUDOS about how much the award meant to her. People like Jean don’t get involved in grassroots sport to receive awards, but by nominating your unsung hero you could wind up making somebody very proud and happy indeed.

The categories are as follows:

Before submitting nominations, you should refer to the Information Pack for 2016 Award Nominations, this pack explains the nomination process, deadlines, and key points for consideration when making your nomination. Download the Goalden Globes 2016 Information Booklet.

Nominations are also sought for a trio of awards that will be awarded nationally only:

Nomination forms should be sent either via email to or by post to Kat Valk, Volunteer Manager, England Netball, Netball House, 1-12 Old Park Road, Hitchin, Hertfordshire, SG5 2JR.
