The Isle of Man have finished top of the medals table at this year’s NatWest Island Games in Gotland, Sweden. A superb week of sport concluded with a flurry of medals for the Manx team which saw them overhaul the Faroe Islands.

100+ medals for Team IoM

The 230-strong team went into Friday’s final day of action second in the medals table, two golds behind the Faroes. The astonishing final day blitz, however, saw Team IoM romp home, surpassing the 100-medal mark at this year’s Games. Among the slew of medals was a gold in the football, after a crushing 6-0 win over Greenland in the final.

Our affiliated teams returned home with their luggage stuffed full of medals – Jersey managed to edge past Guernsey into third place on the final day, with 29 golds and 85 in total, while Guernsey themselves claimed 27 and 94 in total. Team Isle of Wight (pictured at the top of the page) finished in 9th with 7 golds, 12 silvers and 7 bronzes, while Gibraltar (26 including 6 golds), Orkney the Falklands all collected medals too.

Congratulations to all medal winners and everyone who took part. This brilliant event continues to go from strength to strength and everyone in Gotland did a tremendous job as hosts. In 2019 we move on to Gibraltar, hosting the Island Games for a 2nd time. Bring it on!
