At a glittering event in London recently, the wonderful Women’s Sport Trust held the #BeAGameChanger awards – an event that celebrated women’s sport and honoured the individuals and organisations that are doing so much to drive women’s sport forward. We were flattered to receive an invite and what an inspiring evening it turned out to be.

CHANGING THE SPORTING LANDSCAPE

Now into its third year, the #BeAGameChanger Awards does a sterling job of celebrating the outstanding contributions made to raising both the profile of and participation in women’s sport.

The ceremony was hosted by former England captain Sue Day alongside Women’s Sport Trust co-founder Jo Bostock – while the roll call of invited guests read like a who’s who of women’s sport luminaries. England hockey captain Kate Richardson-Walsh, England cricket legend Charlotte Edwards, skeleton racer Lizzy Yarnold and rower Anna Watkins, former England rugby star Maggie Alphonsi and Olympic bronze medallist Jenny Jones and many more were in attendance to laud a series of inspiring and game-changing figures.

Jo Bostock from the Women’s Sport said:

Tonight the BeGameChanger Awards provided entertaining and compelling proof that women’s sport is an unstoppable force. It’s impossible not to be optimistic about the future when you hear from winners like cricket’s Charlotte Edwards and Mel Bound, who picked up our local inspiring initiative award. Our main hope is that people are galvanised by their example and actively seek out ways to back women’s sport. The momentum is there but there is still work to do. With increased investment, more coverage and bold leadership we will change the sporting landscape for good.
