British archery’s plethora of talented young shooters continued to catch the eye with more medals at the recent European Indoor Championships in Vittel, France.

Bryony leads from the front again

After an excellent 2016 and a great start to 2017, the Archery GB squad flew out to France confident of another medal haul – and as has been so often the case lately it was Bryony Pitman leading the way.

Recurver Bryony took individual silver and team bronze to add to a growing pile of medals and round off the indoor season – but content though she was with her performance, Bryony will be desperate to take that extra step and claim a gold or two before the season is out. Her consistency suggests that is just around the corner.

She lost a compelling gold medal showdown against crack Italian archer Tatiana Andreoli, and in the team event she combined with Lizzie Warner and Alyssia Tromans-Ansell to claim bronze after a scorching performance against sixth seeds Poland.

14 year old Layla continues to impress

Compound archer Layla Annison, just 14, was in great form in the juniors as she defeated fourth seed Lisell Jaatma in the battle for bronze. Layla has impressed everybody and at such a young age still has vast scope for improvement. Her future looks particularly bright.

And it wasn’t just the girls – Britain’s junior men’s trio of compounders, Jacob Caine, James Howse and Luke Ralls, teamed up to come agonisingly close to adding to the medal haul in a narrow loss to a strong Russian outfit.

That wraps up the indoor season and with the clocks turned forward and the comforting whiff of summer in the air, all eyes turn to an outdoor season rich with promise and a packed archery calendar. Congratulations to all of our recent medallists and here’s to a successful summer.
